Dear Pontchartrain Park Family
After a long year of hard work, we have just received
the first
properties for redevelopment, and the rebuilding of our neighborhood
has begun. It is time to celebrate and revive our spirit as
we move
into the next phase of rebirth in our community. With that in
mind, we
have put together a wonderful event to celebrate "family"
on the
holiday honoring our nation's birth and independence.
The Pontchartrain Park Neighborhood
Association & HBO Present
" A 4th of July
Celebration"
12noon- 9PM
At the Pontchartrain Park
Playground (Press and Prentiss)
Food & Drinks:
A traditional barbeque with all of the fixings will be served
along
with beverages. Special treats of cotton candy and sno-cones
will be
available.
Fun-filled Games:
There will be many activities where the whole family from the
oldest to
the youngest will be able to participate, including: kickball,
hula
hoops, volleyball, horseshoes, three legged race, sack races,
water
balloon toss, kick ball, marbles, tug of war, pie eating contests,
water slides and face-painting.
Entertainment:
A local dj will play all of the right summer hits to get the
community
on its feet to have a wonderful time.
Screen on the Green: 7PM
With a nostalgic touch, a classic movie will be played on a
large
screen as attendees gather on their blankets to revere wonderful
yesteryears.
Fireworks Display: 9PM
To toast a great day, the evening will come to a finale with
a
fireworks display.
We encourage you to bring your own personal picnic
lunch in addition to
the food we will serve, a blanket for the evening movie, and
insect
repellant to get those bugs we don't.
To start the day, we will have a very special
guest: CONGRESSWOMAN
MAXINE WATERS. For the past year, the congresswoman has been
an
invaluable mentor to Pontchartrain Park and wants to meet with
the
community to hear about the recovery effort. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT
OPPORTUNITY! We will have the chance to speak directly to one
of the
most important members of our federal government, the chair
of the sub
committee of HUD. This community meeting happens before our
celebration
at 11AM, at SUNO's Lake Campus, north of Leon C. Simon, building
#5. I
hope the families of the neighborhood come out and join us for
this
very special day.
